20 Characters Who Everyone Gets Wrong
In some respects, it would be nice if every fictional character was as simple as the talking objects of Dora the Explorer, but it wouldn’t work in the long run. It would be boring as hell, for one thing, for both makers and viewers. On a deeper level, art is supposed to, you know, mean something. The Map might be able to tell you how to get to the Magic Snowy Forest, but it can’t tell you anything about yourself.
The more complex the character, however, the more easily viewers can misunderstand their actions or even entire personalities. You just can’t rely on modern audiences to pick up subtext, so unless you carefully spell out how evil this domestic terrorist is or the creep factor of an elderly vampire, people just won’t get it.
That’s why user unitedfan6191 asked r/AskReddit, “Which fictional character is the most misunderstood?”
