21 Deplorable Characters Who Actually Redeemed Themselves
Characters who grow and change are kind of the whole point of fiction. After all, it would be pretty boring to watch a movie about a guy who never undergoes any significant character development. All the swordfights and car chases in the world would be for nothing if the person behind the wheel and/or hilt is exactly the same person when they’re over.
It’s asking a lot of a script, however, to carry a villain from the most depraved treachery to a valued, cuddly ally to the forces of good. It’s just not a thing that really happens in the meatsphere, so writers don’t have much of a blueprint. When they do pull it off, however, it’s satisfying in a way a thousand reformed Stalins never could be.
That’s why user Chains-of-Ice asked r/AskReddit, “Who has the best redemption arc in fiction?”
