We’ve All Been Misspelling the Name of This ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Character, Glenn Howerton Confirms

Ongo Goblogian is more than just one of Frank Reynolds’ more flamboyant alter egos (sorry Man Cheetah!). He’s also proof that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans are as illiterate as Charlie Kelly.

Glenn Howerton headed to Instagram on Thursday evening with an important clarification about The Gang’s Warhol-ian character, revealing that just as Ongo is sure to weird out gallery curators, we’re sure to butcher the spelling of his vowel-fueled name.

“I just want to state for the record that it’s Ongo Goblogian, not Ongo Gablogian as I always see it spelled,” Howerton captioned a still of Frank sporting a white wig. “That is all.”

Fans weren’t interested in Howerton’s spelling lesson, however, and instead whipped out Ongo’s go-to criticisms as a troll-y retort, denouncing the post as “bullshit,” “derivative” and as pretentious as the collector himself.

“I’m to remember every syllable of a made-up word?!?!” one fan wrote on the Always Sunny subreddit. “Glenn, you should regress; you’ve made yourself perfectly redundant.”

“My life is a lie. My Rocket League profile has been Ongo Gablogian for years with this photo,” joked a second. “I’m gonna stab someone!”

But it’s not just fans and knife-wielding gamers that are prone to misspelling Ongo’s name. FX also didn’t get the memo. The network conspicuously spelled it “Gablogian” in a YouTube compilation about Frank Reynolds’ various personas, even cashing in on the spelling by charging $24.95 for an “Ongo Gablogian Art T-shirt” from the FX Shop.

That said, in the grand scheme of things, it’s really not that big of a deal. As a not-so-wise art collector once said, “We’re all just air conditioners, after all.”
