The Gang Absolutely Loses It in Newly-Resurfaced ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Bloopers
When the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Gang isn’t scheming, scamming, plotting or rubbing things in their enemies’ faces, they still manage to find time for the little things in life — namely, making each other laugh so hard they break character.
Earlier this week, old clips resurfaced on the Always Sunny subreddit, depicting Glenn Howerton, Rob Mac, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito reviving the lost art of the blooper reel. A welcome blast from the past in more ways than one — bloopers were always the best part of the show, as any Disney Channel kid can attest — these gags spanned several of Always Sunny’s 17 seasons and included some of its most iconic moments, like Dennis and Mac sitting Charlie down about his cat food habit.
“Why?” Paddy’s janitor snapped when confronted about his canned diet.
Don't Miss
“Well, because you’re not a cat,” Howerton replied, sending Mac and then the rest of the room into hysterics.
Another bit, dating back to Season 12’s “Old Lady House,” featured Mac’s on-screen mother, Sandy Martin, flaunting her signature deadpan much to her co-stars’ amusement.
“Because she can’t imagine a life without me, right, mom?” Mac asked.
“I don’t give a shit,” Martin fired back, leaving Day, Mac and several off-screen crew members in stitches.
Fans gleaned more than just laughs from these bloopers, though, taking these various breaks as proof of the Always Sunny cast’s famed improv chops. “You can tell how much of it is ad-libbed just by the way they react when someone says something wild,” wrote one fan, while another cited the particular achievement of making Olson giggle. “Kaitlin is clearly the hardest to break,” they theorized. “So when she does, it feels so earned.”
Meanwhile, according to a different Redditor, watching the Always Sunny cast break over and over again managed to do the near-impossible in their household — turn their wife from a certified hater to a Paddy’s Pub regular. “My wife was never interested in watching IASIP because ‘it was just constant yelling,’” they wrote. “One night we were cruising YouTube and I put on IASIP bloopers and she was laughing so hard she finally was down to watch the show. She loves it now.”
That love might have been blooper-inspired, but it’s anything but a mistake.
