‘South Park’ Fans Wonder Whatever Happened to Kenny’s Brother?

When South Park first premiered, Bill Clinton was still president, Kevin Spacey was still beloved and connecting to the internet meant enduring a screeching hissing sound worse than the wail of an Irish banshee covering Limp Bizkit.

The point is, the show’s been on the air for a long time. Naturally, not every character introduced in the show’s early seasons are still a part of South Park, such as Principal Victoria and English exchange student Pip, who was tragically killed by Mecha-Streisand back in Season 14.

Recently a fan on Reddit pointed out that Kenny used to have an older brother, who popped up relatively frequently, even though he didn’t say much. He always sported a Band-Aid on his forehead, had braces on his teeth and just loved having frozen waffles for dinner.

But Kevin McCormick never really got the same attention from the show as Kenny’s younger sibling, Karen.

Not to be confused with the show’s other Karen: Randy Marsh.

Whatever happened to Kevin? “Probably died and didn't reincarnate like Kenny,” one user suggested. Another theorized that Kevin is a “juvenile delinquent who is out and about doing his own thing most of the time.” Trey Parker and Matt Stone probably “forgot about him,” someone else added.

Well, Kevin actually has been a part of the show for its entire run, if you pay close enough attention. As some folks explained, Kevin McCormick is visible in the background of lots of episodes, including last season’s “DikinBaus Hot Dogs,” where he’s lined up for ice cream with the rest of his family. And we also saw the future version of Kevin in the South Park: Post COVID special, sitting in the front row of Kenny’s funeral, next to Karen. He’s the one wearing a Colorado Avalanche jersey underneath a vest.

And Kevin, along with the rest of the McCormick family, was the victim of gentrification, thanks to South Park’s SoDoSoPa development, in Season 19.

So Kevin has been around, although he’s only had a few lines of dialogue in the past 27 years. South Park fans have also taken note of the fact that the show seems to have a preponderance of minor characters named Kevin. In addition to Kenny’s brother, there’s also South Park Elementary’s Kevin Stoley.

And, of course, Mephesto the mad scientist’s “little monkey guy” sidekick/assistant, who also happens to be his adopted son.

Will Season 27 include any more Kevins? We’ll just have to wait and see.
