Jon Stewart Rips the Democrats for Covering Up Biden’s Obvious Decline

The biggest news of the week is a solemn story for the Biden family — unfortunately for them, no punches were pulled in Jake Tapper’s new book.
On Sunday, former President Joe Biden announced that he is currently fighting an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, for which the 82-year-old statesman is reviewing all possible options for medical treatment. Almost immediately after the announcement, both left-wing and right-leaning media outlets figured out their optimal spin on the story and began making the case for how Biden’s illness will affect his legacy — and, more importantly, how the public announcement will affect the sales for Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, CNN anchor Tapper’s tell-all to be released tomorrow.
Don't Miss
During tonight’s episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart devoted the entire first half-hour of the evening to dissecting the political world’s reaction to the Biden bombshell, noting that Tapper’s ill-timed book release exposing the former President's decline could have done a lot more good if it happened when Biden was still stretching for a second term. As the current President and his media allies interrogate the timeline of Biden’s health decline and question his fitness for the Oval Office in those final days, Stewart says that, if the Democrats really did orchestrate an insidious cover-up to hide the fact that Biden was suffering a steep health decline and force his way through the 2024 election, they did a terrible job — “Because we all fucking knew.”
After roasting CNN for blatantly pushing Tapper’s book instead of reporting the important information within it while it was still relevant, Biden covered the predictably poor-taste response that right-wing outlets have had to the sad news, noting how every expression of sympathy for the Biden came with a “but” to segue it into partisan criticisms. But, really, that’s exactly what we expect from Fox News; what’s more disturbing is how this story highlights the Democrats’ disastrous handling of Biden’s health when he was still in office.
“You know what? Maybe it is another cover-up. I don’t fucking know,” Stewart said of the suggestion from many right-wingers, including the President, that Biden knew how badly his health was declining when he tried to run for a second term. “If they came out and said, ‘Yeah, Biden knew about it five years ago,’ I wouldn’t be shocked. If they came out and said Biden found out on Friday, I wouldn’t be shocked.”
Stewart continued, “I understand the excitement over an insidious Democratic cover-up about Joe Biden’s mental decline. The thing is, though, it was a terrible cover-up, because we all fucking knew. All of us knew! There was no cover-up!”
“Poll after poll showed that vast majorities of the public thought that Biden was too old and too out of it to run again. Dean Phillips mounted an entire primary campaign because of it,” Stewart said of the former Congressman from Minnesota. “He, along with most of the public, knew it was a bad idea for Biden to run. We knew it. And that’s what so hilarious about politicians: the cover-up doesn’t work when everyone knows you’re lying!”
The Daily Show then played a montage of Democratic leaders and left-leaning media members gushing about Biden’s energy and acuity during the latter months of his doomed campaign for a second term, often on CNN, where Stewart suggests that perks are now in order for the top sellers of Tapper’s tell-all. “Look, they used to say, ‘It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up,’” Stewart said of our leaders’ lies about the ailing Biden. “But it’s starting to feel like politics is all cover-up, crime or not.”
“In an attempt to hold onto power, political actors do anything they can to project a reality distortion field when all known evidence is to the contrary,” Stewart said of our last two Presidents, then reminding us that both sides of the political media are complicit in the cover-ups. “And the media, tasked with covering them, has somehow ended up inside the bubble with them.”
But, thankfully, the occasional brave reporter is willing to burst the bubble with a bombshell tell-all — about a year and a half after the fact. The ink takes a while to dry on those Penguin Press book deals.
