Kelsey Grammer Absolutely Refused to Wear His ‘X-Men’ ‘Crap’ for a Fan Convention

2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand may have been an embarrassing mess made by a total sleazebag, but we have to admit that Kelsey Grammer did a solid job playing Beast, aka Jacked Blue Frasier Crane.
This version of Beast/Hank McCoy was such a success that Grammer was brought back for a confusing post-credit scene in The Marvels. And it was recently announced that he will be in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Or at the very least an empty chair featuring his name will.
On the most recent episode of Literally! with Rob Lowe, Grammer revealed that he hasn’t yet read a script for Doomsday. “I’ve had a preliminary introduction to the idea,” Grammer said. “They’re still very secretive about the script.”
The Cheers star was apparently pretty bummed to find out that the X-Men franchise would be rebooting with a new cast. And he got that news just days after The Last Stand premiered at Cannes. “They came to me and said, like a couple days into that visit, ‘We have got the greatest new direction for this character.’ And they just sort of spat out that they were gonna go back in time and it was gonna be (a younger cast). And I thought, ‘Well, but that means I won’t be doing it.’”
When Lowe asked if he’d ever attended any fan conventions, Grammer explained that he once turned down a high-paying appearance specifically because it required him to show up in costume. “Years ago, they offered me, it was a sizable chunk of change, to dress up as Beast and put all that crap on again and go walk around,” Grammer recalled. “I said, ‘No, that’s insane.’”
Although Grammer did confess that he once appeared as a guest at a Star Trek convention, owing to his brief role as Captain Morgan Bateson, who may or may not also be Dr. Frasier Crane.
Grammer’s reluctance to dress up in a goofy costume is understandable, especially because it took around three hours to have his makeup applied each time. So he was relieved to find out that no makeup was required for his Marvels cameo, since the character was entirely CGI. Although he still flew to Quebec on a private jet in order to act out the part while wearing performance-capture technology.
Incidentally, if they already have a digital scan of Grammer in a computer somewhere, would it be too much to add Frasier to Grand Theft Auto VI?
