James Corden Roasted for Wearing the Same Boring Tux to Every Met Gala

In Corden’s defense, he changed the color of his bow tie one year
James Corden Roasted for Wearing the Same Boring Tux to Every Met Gala

Every year, the Costume Institute Benefit hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art invites the world’s most glamorous celebrities to dress up in the most audacious custom outfits to fit the theme. And every year, James Corden wears a plain black tuxedo while his online haters wonder what the hell he’s still doing in America.

On Monday, the fashion and entertainment elite all slipped into their meticulously crafted custom outfits and flocked to the most lavish luxury event of the year as each star’s clothier of choice debuted their take on the Met Gala 2025 theme of “Black Dandyism.” In addition to all the most adored and admired entertainers in the world, the former and final Late Late Show host Corden also showed up to the Met Gala, only he arrived to the biggest night in fashion looking like a featured soloist at his secondary school’s chorus concert. Sporting a plain black suit and a plain white shirt (how original), Corden walked the red carpet and chatted with his former late-night guests and Carpool Karaoke partners before the fashionistas of Twitter realized that he wasn’t there serving hors d'oeuvres, thus sending them into a frenzy.

While Fashion Twitter continues to furiously debate whether superstars like Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky or Bad Bunny deserve the coveted superlative of “Best Dressed” at this year’s Met Gala, no one is arguing that the title of “Why Didn’t He Just Stay Home?” belongs to anyone besides one Brit:

As some fashion-loving comedy fans pointed out, unfortunately for the world of fine clothes, Corden is unlikely to be struck from the highly exclusive guest list for the Met Gala because Anna Wintour, the long-time editor-in-chief of Vogue, the co-chair of the Met Gala and the inspiration behind the hit 2006 dramedy The Devil Wears Prada, has an affinity for her fellow Brit for some bizarre reason.

During Cordens late-night career, Wintour willingly subjected herself to the usual The Late Late Show with James Corden humiliation rituals during her appearances, one time eating bacon-wrapped pizza at Cordens insistence during a game of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” Then, after Corden finally left American television, Wintour appeared on Cordens SiriusXM radio show This Life of Mine with James Corden to share intimate details of her life, a rare occurrence for the enigmatic fashion and media icon.

Clearly, Corden is on Wintours good side, but even if theyre friends, its hard to see why she keeps letting him come to the Met Gala when he refuses to fit the theme. Maybe she wants to keep the events waiters on their toes by having someone yell at them while wearing their uniform.
