This ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Great Is Conspicuously Absent From the Season 17 Staff List

If Megan Ganz isn’t working on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, then at whom will the Gang yell when they need someone to cut that, cut that, cut that?
The success of a sitcom like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is only made possible by the hard work of so many dozens of talented people in behind-the-scenes positions who remain anonymous all too often. However, in the case of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one writer and executive producer has become a fan-favorite on the show despite never once appearing onscreen — at least, not in the show itself.
Ganz, a TV comedy veteran whose credits include work on Community and Modern Family and who co-created Mythic Quest alongside Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, has earned the adoration of the Always Sunny fan community through her work as an executive producer and co-host on the sadly concluded The Always Sunny Podcast.
Don't Miss
So, when the Writers Guild of America posted their list of WGA-covered professionals working on Always Sunny Season 17, Ganz’ absence from the credits had superfans wondering why Ganz isn’t on the team this season, as well as whether the people who made Mac’s Dennis doll do rush orders:
This past weekend, news of Ganz’ non-participation in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 quickly spread in the Always Sunny subreddit where the WGA directory confirmed fans’ worst suspicions about the lack of Meg in so many of the staff photos leading up to the long-awaited return of Always Sunny. Ever since McElhenney posted a picture of the Season 17 writing staff in August 2024, the lack of photographic evidence that Ganz (a writer/producer who famously avoids the camera) is actively involved in the next stage of Always Sunny has caused stress among the show’s most passionate viewers.
While Ganz will be dearly missed by the Always Sunny Podcast fans who grew attached to the begrudgingly brilliant fourth mic, she’s certainly not stepping back from making TV during her time away from Always Sunny. Earlier this month, the U.K. entertainment industry magazine Broadcast reported that Big Talk Studios had hired Ganz, who joined It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as a writer back in 2016 before quickly earning a promotion to executive producer, to write the American remake of the popular (in the U.K.) mystery dramedy Ludwig.
Presumably, Ganz was too busy with production work on Mythic Quest Season Four and with the many other irons she has in the fire to work on the most delayed season of Always Sunny ever, and hopefully the TV comedy giant will return the series once Season 18 gets underway. Maybe she’ll even bring the podcast back with her — a fan can dream.
