20 Cringey Lines in Otherwise Fantastic Movies

As jokesters, we know all too well that not every plane lands. Maybe you’re tired or in a rush, or maybe your heart just isn’t in it, so you sit on the keyboard a few times and call it good. It can be even worse when you’re trying to write something serious but you just can’t figure out how not to use the words “jiggles.” Whatever the case, even the best-written scripts can contain some real duds.

Redditor Froobyflake certainly agrees. They asked r/Movies for “cringey lines in an otherwise fantastic movie,” noting the thorn in their personal side, when Jeremy Renner asks Amy Adams, “You wanna make a baby?” in Arrival. “I have seen this movie three or four times, and every time I am completely immersed until this line is delivered at the end and I burst out laughing,” they said, before following up, “What are other examples of cringey and/or bad dialogue in an otherwise fantastic film?”

Here’s what their fellow Redditors came up with…

Oppenheimer

Four Weddings and a Funeral

The Dark Knight

Batman Begins

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Jaws

Pacific Rim

X-Men
