TikTokers Shoot Surrealist ‘Ding Dong Ditch’ Sketch to End All Surrealist ‘Ding Dong Ditch’ Sketches
The TikTok/YouTube/Instagram prank video has been done to death — almost literally. Though it’s hard to have a fresh take on the genre, a return to basics yielded some absurd results for a few visionary pranksters.
Grantbeans, aka tik_tok_bhaddie, produced a postmodernist, deconstructive delirium simply titled “DING DONG DITCH” that harkens back to the days of prank simplicity. This surrealist escapade shows a reverence for the classics and an inventive ingenuity that feverishly assaults our preconceived notions of what a practical joke video can be, pushing the medium to places no other artist has ever thought to take it.
Sitting at a whopping 20 million views, “DING DONG DITCH” gives audiences all the twists, turns, music stings and mind-fuckery of a Christopher Nolan film, just with a forgiving runtime and more coherent character arcs. “Knock knock,” says Beans. “It’s the future of pranks.”
