If French is the language of love, then the French must really hate our movies.

Paris-based UX writer and content designer Juan Buis recently revealed a ridiculous translation trend in French cinema wherein film importers translate the titles of American movies from English to… clunkier English. For reasons known only to the French, the country has a long-established and completely inexplicable practice of localizing English-language films by making their movie posters significantly more stupid. Perhaps the French change our movie titles because those cheese-eaters think we’re too dumb to come up with better names than “Sex Academy,” “Sex Trouble” or “Sexy Dance 2” — come to think of it, maybe they just really like sex.

With all due respect to Disney, there is one French title that unironically contends with the original name — from now on, we’re going to start calling Cool Runnings “Rasta Rocket.”
