Carly Simon was one of the most popular singers of the 1970s, and many of her songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her first hit was in 1972 with You're So Vain, a song dedicated to James Taylor, whom she married and with whom she had two children. In 1983, she divorced Taylor and later married writer John Hart, divorcing him in 2007.

In 1977, Simon achieved widespread recognition with her song Nobody Does It Better, which was the theme song for the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.

Her biggest musical success during the 1980s was Let the River Run, a song written for the film Working Girl (1988).
