What a 70s High School Looked Like if You Weren't Cool
High school is a very particular time in everyone's life. It can define a lot about your identity and personality, and how you live after those tumultuous years. Some people peak in high school, which probably feels incredible at the time, but can be a bit sad later on. Others just hate high school and everything they've experienced there because they didn't get the girl, or worse, their nemesis did.
Either way, year after year, high school is all about the same thing: are you cool? Those in the middle are forgotten, but these two groups are the living soul of high school, and the ones that set things in motion.
It's okay to admit you weren't a cool kid, especially in the '70s, when that distinction wasn't life-changing. And if you don't want to admit it, that's okay too.
Lunch to go
Wearing glasses meant you could spend a lot of time choosing your lunch, only to then give it to your favorite bully.
School Dance
In the seventies, being a teenager wasn't cool, and everyone would dress as an adult. A child-size adult.
Cafeteria Staff
If you weren't cool in high school, these were your people and, sometimes, your best friends.
Lunchtime
If you saw people looking cool, they were probably coming after you.
An Aesthethic
Fads were the same for teenagers and adults, so everyone dressed similarly to belong.
Stage Cafeteria
If your school had a stage in the cafeteria, you might've been cool. But if you didn't perform on it, you just weren't.
Sitting down
Here's where you did most of your learning, although this one in particular is too clean for a 70s high school.
Wanna Go To Prom With Me?
Prom made you wear something you'd probably regret forever.
The Cool Kids' Table
Cool kids would sit together in the same spot every day, but uncool kids had to look for whatever was available, and face the consequences.
Locker
You could try to keep your locker as tidy as possible, but it would look something like this by the end of the school year.
Gym Class
Gym class was all about aerobics and sports, and the place where popular kids and nerds would define their traits.
Yearbook photo
You had to be an adult from very early on. It was tough.
Bye School
You were always last for school events, working in groups, or simply hanging out after school.
Counselor
If you weren't cool in the 70s, you'd spend more time with school staff than your own peers.
Drive Simulator
If you tried one of these during high school in the 70s, it meant your family didn't have a car, and that made you automatically uncool.
Yearbook prep
No matter how hard you tried, yearbook photos aren't meant for uncool kids.
Jazz Band
You could play sports or be in a band to be cool. Jazz band doesn't count, although the knowledge could come in handy later in life.
Class
Cool kids could skip class and graduate. Not you.
70s hairstyle
Cool kids would frame their yearbook photos, but others would hide them in a drawer forever.
Dancing Mood
There weren't many teenage movies in the 70s, so it's very likely you didn't even know how to dance.
