20 Movie Marketing Campaigns That Flopped Or Went Haywire
The success of a movie hinges on several factors: the size of its budget, name recognition of its stars, capitulation to foreign powers, etc. But the marketing campaign cannot be overlooked. A great movie can be buried if the studio neglects the publicity, and a misleading campaign can sour audiences on a movie they might have otherwise liked, even without all those missing explosions.

This movie failed to find success not only due to its rather dull title but also because the marketing for it was nonexistent. My dad took me to see it because he had read the comics as a kid and was excited for it, but otherwise, I doubt I ever would have heard of it.”
