Andrew Schulz Is A ‘Communist’ Now
Last week, Zohran Mamdani made a very impressive appearance on Flagrant, Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh’s podcast. It was ultra notable because both Schulz and Singh are pretty right wing — the show even interviewed Donald Trump in the weeks leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
In the months since that interview, both men admitted they felt, in some ways, duped by Trump. Schulz explicitly said back in July that Trump’s presidency wasn’t “what he voted for.” Since then, there have been other moments where the two comedians seem to circle more progressive ideas — though with the kind of obtuse understanding that they approach most other ideas.
But during the Mamdani interview, something shifted. A man made out to be a radical communist liberal turned out to be shockingly adept at being just one of the bros, seemingly winning over the group of men.

On Schulz’s other podcast Brilliant Idiots with Charlamagne tha God, which was released on October 25th, the comedian discussed hosting the NYC mayoral candidate.
“Zohran got you? He flipped you?” Charlamagne asked.
In response, Schulz dove into some of the “changes” he’s made since speaking with Mamdani, which echoed some of the most inflammatory and offensive comments made about the Democratic mayoral candidate. (Schulz didn’t become a beacon of cultural sensitivity overnight.)
But he wrapped up by explaining, “I’m a communist now, bro. Turns out communism is not that bad.”
“I like Zohran’s messaging. His messaging has always been affordability, and he stays on message,” Charlamagne responded. “He doesn’t let anybody take him off message.”
As their conversation continued, it was clear that Schulz wasn’t joking about being transformed by interviewing Mamdani and reading more about the realities of people living in his home city. He spent a good few minutes explaining just how unreasonable rent prices are for New Yorkers right now. “Half of New Yorkers monthly paychecks go to rent. Did you know that?” he said to Charlamagne.
Schulz definitely isn’t a communist now, but he’s sounding much more like a man of the people.
