20 of the Worst Ways Comics Were Turned Into Movies

‘We have all collectively forgotten the Hulk movie from 2003’

Of all written works, you’d think comic books would lend themselves the most easily to screen adaptation. Bringing a novel to life requires untold depths of imagination, but with a comic book, the images are right there. The plots are usually already cinematically snappy, too. Just put a guy in a suit, give him something to punch and call it a day.

In reality, however, it’s not quite that easy. For one thing, comic books can get weird as hell. Scores of Batman and Superman subplots have been mercifully left on the cutting room floor. But it’s mostly just harder than you think to recreate the technicolor world of comics, and some attempts have resulted in a level of dreck beneath even the sweatiest nerd.

“For me, I’m gonna go with Moon Knight,” Redditor ThickProof409 told r/comicbooks. “I can’t think of a worse comic adaptation. I won’t go too in-depth about why it was so bad, ‘cause what can I say that hasn’t been said? So I’ll just simply explain it by saying it was a complete bastardization of the source material and felt nothing like the comics, and it changed pretty much everything about the character.”

They then asked, “What is the worst comic book adaptation you’ve ever seen?” and all kinds of awfulness followed.
