20 TV Shows That Completely Transformed Over Time

‘Mr. Robot’ starts off with a hacker and then goes on a wild ride

When it comes to visual media, different formats have their advantages. A movie can make a bigger impact, forcing creators to condense a story down to two-ish hours and literally projecting it onto an IMAX screen, whereas a series allows a story to sprawl out a bit more. Really plop down, spread its limbs and practice taking up space, narratively speaking.

Sometimes, though, a TV show evolves to the point that it's hardly recognizable from the first episode. That’s not always a bad thing — there are some seriously dud-ly pilots out there — but it's definitely not always a good thing, either.

That's why user Legendaryum asked r/AskReddit, “What’s a series whose first episode(s) are totally different from what the series is really about?”
