When HD TVs Are Too HD [COMIC]

Basic Instructions is a twice weekly updating web comic that offers absurd advice on how to live your life. Some of those updates will be happening here on Cracked.
Previously Scott has taught us How to Serve Slightly Chilled Revenge and How to Lose at Scrabble With Dignity.

I'm guessing that my TV isn't fancy enough for that feature, because I don't understand one little thing about this comic.
ReplyBasic instructions: Your job is to figure out which of the commentors are stupid- the majority or the minority. Answer: The haters.
ReplyI bought a TV with Mexican Soap Opera Mode. It's kind of weird at first, but I got used to it after a few weeks. I do kind of miss the motion blur, though.
ReplyI am currently working on a version of Microsoft Word that will enable me to end this comic. Don't ask me how. Why? Because.
ReplyI think it's funny that people think "soap opera mode" looks worse than normal TV even though it's higher quality, because it "looks like" home video or daytime TV which are crap for reasons unrelated to image quality. People are apparently too stupid to watch TV with a good picture and enjoy it. So have fun banging rocks together.
ReplyI think it's funny that people think the "quality" of an image can be assessed objectively.
I guess we're amused by different things.
Oh man, I f*****g hate Mexican Soap Opera Mode. I always have to get up and turn that s**t off when watching a movie at a friend's place.
ReplyI watch TV about once a week so I'm glad to say I don't have this problem but still, what's "Mexican Soap Opera Mode"?
ReplyIt DOES look like a mexican soap opera.
ReplyExcept in computer animated movies. In those it looks like a videogame cutscene.
God, I hate soap opera mode. I can't believe people think that looks good.
Replythe 3rd caption made me laugh out loud. wow, I am shocked by the comedy of this basic instructions comic. good job.
Replyha ha!
Replythe picture quality really is weird. that's a good way to describe it.
funnier because my new tv, purchased for Superbowl, actually did catch fire.
HD is awesome for gaming, and often movies. But regular, everyday TV is terrible. It's not nice to see every blemish, plus it really doesn't bother me as much with the majority of TV, just doesn't interest me.
Replythis one craked me up, not only because mi TV is from 1995 and I am one of the people that think HD is bulls**t, but also because I just love when English speaking people talk in Spanish.
Replydeberíamos encender el "modo telenovela mexicana" y ver una telenovela mexicana.
no, si lo hago podría sobrecargarse y volar hecha una "fireball"
It's just not the same the other way around...
What about HD is "bulls**t"?
its ok. i just think he is poor.
Whenever I am asked why I don't like HD, I always want to say "Because it makes everything look like terrible soap operas," but figured no one would understand what I meant. I mean, you just paid a buttload of money for this, why would it look cheap?
ReplyThank you for reassuring me I am not insane/tripping.
I hear you on that one.
It's not HD that does that. Regular HD looks great. What does that is these stupid TVs with this "motion enhance" nonsense.
Like the art, jokes seemed to fall flat.
ReplyMy TV was made in 1996. HDTV, Motion Smoothing, Framerate, 1080p. I have no idea what any of this means.

get a 3d. they're cheap as hell because no one's buying them.
I can't imagine watching TV with glasses on. I don't even wear the ones in my avatar unless stuff is really far away.
if you are in a avatar, I suggest you wear whatever equipment they ask you to. if you don't follow directions, you may just fall in love with a blue cat person. chaos to follow.
You must have really small eyes, those glasses are tiny.
Okay, fairly amusing. Thanks for making me chuckle.
ReplyI think the whole debate over "better" framerates looking "worse" comes down to an uncanny valley type of situation. The picture looks a lot more like real life, but still not quite, so it's unnerving.
Replyit looks like you're actually there watching the action as a bystander, which looks really weird trapped inside the tv frame.
i think that's why it seems like a camcorder.
so...
ReplyHahahah
ReplyGreat stuff
