Navigating The Worst Type of Workplace Conversation [COMIC]

Basic Instructions is a twice weekly updating web comic that offers absurd advice on how to live your life. Some of those updates will be happening here on Cracked.
Previously Scott has taught us How to Spread Happiness and provided A Guide to Encountering Douchebags in the Wild .

Funny, as usual.
ReplyI don't understand why they keep putting these basic instructions comics, they're not funny, they rarely make sense, and they're almost never actual jokes. put more subnormality, those are good.
Reply Hide All See All 3 RepliesThey're funny, they always make sense, they're always jokes, and are always very good. Oh, and they drive hits.
And you call yourself a genius?

I wonder if the author knows the difference between an acronym and initials or if he's making fun of both of the people in the comic.
Reply Hide All See All 9 RepliesNo, he's completely correct in saying the name of the show is an acronym. As in CSI, SVU, etc.
No, actually, CSI, SVU, etc. are initialisms like FBI, or IRS in that you most often say each letter. AIDS, NATO, SCUBA, FAQ are acronyms because they are pronounced as one word.
ooh splint! i just learned this from p&t's bulls**t.
You have to be kidding about FAQ? 'facue', 'fack', 'faquah' I have no idea...
...f**k
Well, FAQ can go either way. From Wikipedia: "Since the acronym FAQ originated in textual media, its pronunciation varies; "fack," "fax," "facts," and "F.A.Q." are commonly heard. "
I pronounce it "FAX", as in "Did you check the FAX?"
Well, Splint, if your source is Wikipedia, why didn't you mention the multiple parts about "There is no universal agreement on the precise definition of the various terms (see nomenclature), nor on written usage (see orthographic styling)."
Seems to me that there are no hard and fast rules for made up words because they're made up.
This is the most boring conversation I've ever seen.
In my Bachelor of Arts (Hons) English Language course, we learn about acronyms, and that "initialism" is BS.
Who's for Red Meat being in this spot?
Replylet's see a poop joke with a gag line from an early 90's sitcom, two jokes about how tv writers aren't very good, and a joke about how this comic isn't very good... i guess the good thing is that this strip implies that he has a day job.
ReplySweet comic! haha

It's hard to imagine where everyone gets the energy to hate on this comic every time it shows up on this site. It's not brilliant, but it's not bad either. It's pretty bland, really, so I don't understand why people hate it so much.
ReplyBecause we'd much rather see something funnier.
It's because it's not really "laugh out loud" funny. I agree with you though. I still find these mildly to moderately amusing.
Still sucks pretty bad
Replyeveryone is a critic... including me; this comic seems to hit the nail on the edge of the head. not quite spot on, but pretty spot on.
Reply...in other words i have been apart of or witness to these very same conversations in my office many times.
Ugh. Notice how pretty much every one of these comics is about how the main character, who I presume is the author, is more clever that everyone in the universe?
Reply Hide All See All 4 Replieswell said
he looks lame to, like a hipster crossed with stone cold steve austin
The ones posted on Cracked are. The archive has a lot more variety.
Not really - I've seen plenty of these where the main character is stupid and/or crazy and his coworker or girlfriend calls him on it.
Of course, it's never this particular coworker. I'm guessing this is someone he really doesn't like IRL :P
Of course he's shown as being clever; he's the audience surrogate. If he were as stupid as the clichéd antagonists, that would be an insult to the readership, and would be ignoring the theme of the comic.
best one so far, still not lol funny, but it did raise a smirk, which is a MASSIVE improvement!
Replythese comics fluxuate. I liked this one, though.
Reply Hide All See All 3 Replies"you listened to me talk about it for 20 minutes."
haha.
fluxuate?
Yes, fluxuate, and Emmit Brown invented the flucts capacitor.
What the fluxuate?
Just a pizza, fer chrissakes. Leave me alone!
I don't particularly like this comic much, but this one was actually fairly decent.
ReplyCan't wait to retell this cartoon to people at work.
ReplyOh...I see what you just did there.
Best one I've read so far. That's not saying much, but still, improvement is still improvement.
Replyagreed
Don't give up your day job, Scott. Unless this is it in which case please do.
Replylawls
Almost laugh out loud.
ReplyIt's a six inside head bob laughs out of ten.
The adequacy of this comic is almost enough to redeem you, Scott Meyer. Hit me with another one, see if we can't keep the magic going.
Replygod damn it :(
