In response to the tirade of comments having anything to do with racism, I'd like to say that the overall message this comic conveys has more to do with unity, sameness, that we are all so much more alike than we are different.

Actually in this case the jock would end up in a maximum security prison for a violent offense and the nerd would end up in a minimum security prison because his was a non-violent offense

That a black person and white person are two distinct races that have nothing to do with each other. It is "cultural intolerance." Hating dogs or cats; fish; aliens, that's racism.

the term race is perfectly valid in a biological context, the degree of validity when describing humans is, however, debatable
I always thought talking about someone's race was like talking about every unique tribute someone has. Thus, racism is like saying, "HE'S LEFT HANDED!! HE'S NOT HUMAN!!!!" in a way. I hope I didn't put this wrong, but you get the point, probably.

We're all different remember? that's what we're told throughout our entire lives. However, they're all still people.. human.. different, but the same. Human itself is a race, hence the term "Human Race" but it has multitudes of sub-races with cultural/religious/intellectual/social etc differences. Using the words Race or Racism, is not racist.
Acknowledging that people DO view people of different races differently (often subconsciously) is not racist. Since it's such an ingrown trait, acknowledging it is the only way to address it.
How is hating a dog, cat or fish racist? Wouldn't you call it speciesism? Apparently, some people are just to ignorant to know what they are talking about.
Human isn't a race, it's a species. The phrase "Human Race" is bullshit. And races are like breeds of dogs. It's the same thing. But we give it a different name.
Guys he saying that treating people differently because they are of a different "race" is bad. At the same time, treating a person differently for doing something to someone of a different "race" compared to of the same "race" is also bad.
If someone does a crime, he should be punished the same regardless of whether he committed it against someone of his own "race" or others.
Wow you guys are retarded.. by putting race into it he made it sound like all blacks are jocks, but he said that he's black so he can't be racist TOWARDS HIS OWN RACE. Not because black people are incapable of being racist.. f**k I can't believe how f*****g stupid some people are.
ReplyI figured people were getting all uppity because he said all white people are nerds. It's quite obvious that a black person who generalizes their own race, isn't racist since he can't think of himself as a member of the superior race. (Though in his comment, jocks are superior to nerds.. at least up until the point they're out of highschool and the jocks are the ones working for the nerds; despite the race of either)
I should also point out that they misunderstood his comment in the first place. He wasn't calling black people jocks, or white people nerds. Some people however don't bother thinking about the things they read and just assume their misunderstanding was right.
Anyone saying that a minority can't be racist is ignorant and should kill themselves now to prevent spread of their retard seed
ReplyThis is to everyone responding to noodle_mama. If he is black, and he is saying a discriminatory comment about white people, he's not actually being racist. In order to be racist we have to be in a society that has institutions that support the idea that being white is bad. And seeing as white is normally seen as good and everything else as bad, he's not being racist. Just an a*****e.

Racism is the thought that ones own race is superior to another. Like a white guy thinking he's better and more deserving than a black guy, simply because he's white. That's racism.. and total a**holery
Two different definitions - general dictionary definition is what lezbeeanary said. The definition that people who study race/gender/etc. often use is the one given by RachelFleetham, because they often need a term to describe hatred + privilege. No one's saying that prejudice towards any race (white or otherwise) isn't bad, it's just a more precise definition.
I thought the actual definition was the belief that one's rae is the most critical factor in one's personality.
Racism is prejudice based on one's race. As such, it's possible to have positive racism. If you say "Such-and-such race is awesome." (Not saying that "such-and-such race is better than such-and-other race.") That's positive racism.
You left out the part where the Jock works for the Nerd.
