After a certain point, numbers lose all meaning. A billion is a hell of a lot, a quadrillion is a hell of a lot. The difference between how much of a hell of a lot each is, though, is hard for most people to wrap their heads around — a quadrillion minus a billion is pretty much still a quadrillion. That’s mad. But from the scale we can comprehend them, they’re basically the same.

Likewise, is there really a difference between someone who has had sex with 4,000 people and someone who has had sex with 5,000? Is the one who’s had sex with 5,000 laughing at the one who’s had sex with 4,000, calling them frigid? Doubt it. Both numbers are incredibly high; both people are presumably fairly emotionally troubled.

Giacomo Girolamo Casanova, whose name lives on as a word for a great and prolific lover, had 122 sexual partners. Genghis Khan had six wives and 500 concubines — a significant amount of the modern world’s population is directly descended from him. However, Dustin Diamond, who played Screech on Saved By the Bell, claimed to have had sex with 2,000 women. Makes you think, probably.
