Fox News Applauds David Spade For Peddling Their War on Christmas Nonsense
David Spade gave Fox News their gift early this year, regurgitating many of their asinine “War on Christmas” culture war talking points that were already tired during the Obama administration.
On the most recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast, Spade claimed that “Christmas is taking a little bit of a beating lately,” possibly because he hasn’t set foot inside of a shopping mall, a drug store or a retail environment of any kind in the past two months.
“It is December,” he continued. “And I saw the other day, there was a tree lighting ceremony for the Christmas tree in some dopey mall, I don’t know. But it said ‘Tree Lighting Ceremony’ and they were careful not to say the word ‘Christmas’ during the whole ceremony.”

“Then what is the tree for? A ‘December to Remember?’ Is it a Lexus dealership?” Spade sarcastically questioned after not bothering to look up the fact that trees were brought indoors to celebrate the winter solstice long before Christianity became a thing.
“I’ve never met someone from another religious faith that was upset about a Christmas tree,” co-host Dana Carvey agreed. “I’d say stop that bullshit,” the Tommy Boy star added, later arguing “I don’t like the anti-Christian feel.”
Fox News quickly picked up and celebrated Spade's comments, perhaps unsurprisingly, given how the cable channel has turned manufactured yuletide outrage into a profitable holiday tradition.
Fox is, of course, famous for taking on the insidious liberal plot to rob Jesus of his birthday attention by saying “Happy Holidays” and forcing children to play with Black Santa Clauses and gay Nutcrackers.
The story similarly reached right wing media outlets like Breitbart and The New York Post. But even those sites don’t seem to have any clue what mall Spade is referring to.
It sure appears as though Spade is simply confused, and was describing a recent news story about Portland, Oregon's tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer Courthouse Square – which, last time we checked, is not “some dopey mall.” Since the tree was referred to as a “holiday tree,” Fox and others blasted the event as an example of wokeness run amok.
But the organizers weren’t “careful not to say the word ‘Christmas’ during the whole ceremony” as Spade suggested. There were carolers, a performance of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” and if all that weren’t enough, Santa Claus himself was there!
Clearly Christmas is taking a real beating this year.
