Theo Von Shoots His Shot With Sports Reporter and Bombs Worse Than His Netflix Taping
Right-wing comedian and podcasting giant Theo Von has had a tough couple of weeks, but the great ones don’t let a slump stop them from taking a big shot on the national stage.
On Saturday, Von retired to ESPN’s flagship college football pre-game show College GameDay as a guest picker to weigh in on the SEC showdown between Alabama and Vanderbilt. As the unofficial mascot of the UFC prelims, Von is no stranger to the spotlight at sporting events. In fact, he felt so comfortable in his role as the College GameDay guest star that he appeared to put the moves College GameDay correspondent Jessica “Jess” Sims, who quickly shut Von down with even more devastating force than the Crimson Tide used on the Commodores en route to a 30-14 home win.

Unfortunately for Von, he probably won’t be seeing Sims again any time soon — but he’ll be seeing clips of her savage rejection on his timeline for the foreseeable future.
Just as Von’s preferred team Vanderbilt were the underdogs going into their road matchup on Saturday and will regroup after the loss, Von is keeping his head held high, even after such a long-shot attempt at finding love fell embarrassingly short. Putting Sims on the spot at the very end of their segment didn’t have a high likelihood of success, but her response of “I hope not” solidified Von’s appearance on College GameDay as the most brutal sports defeat of the weekend.
“I think the giant celebratory smoke cannons going off right after she says that is the best part tbh,” one comedy fan wrote in a viral Reddit thread about Sims’ ruthless rejection of Von’s untimely advances.
“Theo Gone,” another commenter wrote.
One more viewer added, “That interaction was funnier than any ‘comedy’ bit Theo Von has ever done.”
Many more fans theorized that, for Sims’ rejection to be that quick and sharp, Von must have been doing something to make the sports reporter and fitness instructor uncomfortable behind the scenes, but, asking a stranger out on live TV while she’s trying to send the feed back to the main desk left Sims very little room to behave professionally during such an awkward moment. Because, really, no woman wants to have to reject men’s advances when she’s at work, especially if she works on a live TV show watched by millions of people across the country.
Nevertheless, considering his popularity in SEC territory, Von will probably be back on College GameDay before long — and, hey, at least when he bombed this time, nobody in Tuscaloosa demanded to get their money back.
