Greg Gutfeld Is ‘Excited’ to Be on Jimmy Fallon Next Week
Well, Jimmy Fallon’s shtick on standing up to Trump lasted exactly four seconds. It seems the host is taking perpetual gambling addict Jay Leno’s neutrality advice, which was “Why shoot for just half an audience all the time?” Fallon is really reaching for the other half of the audience with one his guests next week: Greg Gutfeld.
The Fox News late-night show host is slated to guest on The Tonight Show next week. For those not familiar with Gutfeld! because of where it airs, it’s actually drawing in a bigger audience than any other late-night program. For the second quarter of 2025, the show drew in 3.289 million views, far surpassing The Late Show (2.417 million), Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.772 million) and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (1.188 million).
Gutfeld’s not the most watched because he’s using his air time on Fox News to cater to people from all political beliefs. Not at all. On The Weekly Show podcast, Stewart addressed his appeal. “Gutfeld’s the most popular,” Stewart said.
Don't Miss
“Yeah. He’s not popular because he’s a both-sides guy,” Stewart continued, mocking Leno’s advice.
“After a day of watching Fox News and being bathed in their very purposeful propaganda, it’s a great way to top off the night,” Stewart criticized.
Stewart is right. Recent Gutfeld segments include jokes like “Kamala hasn’t held a book in years,” and full-throated support of a Trump policy aimed at criminalizing homeless people. “I know my homeless people in my neighborhood really,” Gutfeld said during his July 25th episode. “And a lot of them are not crazy, they are just having a good time.”
It’s too early to say what Fallon and Gutfeld will actually talk about, though it’s sending a clear enough message regardless of whether they talk about politics or not. Fallon, unable to scrounge up more of his own audience, is looking to court some of Gutfeld’s. It’s a clear win in the culture wars for the right, and Gutfeld knows it. “I am doing Jimmy Fallon next week, and I’m psyched about it,” Gutfeld said on Fox News’ The Five. “Fallon comes across as a great guy. And me going on his show shows he’s not worried about upsetting his peers.”
Congratulations on that accolade, Jimmy.
Fallon isn’t the first comedian to court the right, whose rabid levels of engagement are great for ratings. Bill Maher’s been doing it as well, and it’s standard form for Andrew Schulz, Joe Rogan and the rest of the manosphere. But it’s a big departure from Fallon’s general abstention in the realm of politics and directly hypocritical to his own song and dance last week about not falling for Trump distractions. He’s following that up with letting a Certified Trump Distraction have air time on his show.
This won’t be a scenario where Gutfeld is genuinely challenged by Fallon during a genuine interview either. Fallon isn’t capable of that. Instead, it will be some smarmy conversation that fails to be funny or illuminating, but will soften Gutfeld to an audience previously unacquainted with him — just like that whole hair-tousling bit with Trump.

“He got a lot of stick for ‘humanizing’ Trump when he tousled his hair, but it didn’t come from anybody but the people on the left who wanted to teach all entertainers a lesson that if you dare show that Trump is a human, then you’re toast,” Gutfeld said on Fox. “And so it’s kinda nice that he’s taking this risk.”
Fallon might be trying to use Gutfeld for a ratings boost, but Gutfeld is using him more. We’re all the worse for it.
