There’s A Chance There Will Be A ‘Simpsons’/‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Crossover This Season

Have you ever turned on an episode of The Simpsons and felt like there was something missing? A pub somehow even grimier than Moe’s Tavern? A “Golden God” screaming amid a sea of yellow? Five of the absolute worst people you’ve ever seen scheming, scamming and plotting their way through Springfield?

If so, you just might be in luck.

During The Simpsons’ panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con on Saturday, producers revealed that one member of the Paddy’s Pub Gang will soon drop by Evergreen Terrace, confirming that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton will appear in the show’s upcoming 37th season.

The third Always Sunny actor to be featured on The Simpsons — Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito have both previously lent their voices to the long-running series — Howerton is just one of several guest stars slated for a trip to Springfield next TV season.

Joining a stacked slate of celebrity cameos, including Succession star Kieran Culkin, Community’s Dan Pudi and newly minted Broadway darling Cole Escola, it’s unclear what do’h!-ing, animated antics Howerton will get into on the show — or whether or not it will represent some sort of official Simpsons/Always Sunny crossover (a la the one Always Sunny just did with Abbott Elementary).

Either way, fans were still stoked to hear Philly’s resident “Five Star Man” would be bringing a bit of Always Sunny’s signature chaos to the animated series. “They’re gonna make me watch modern-day Simpsons,” joked one fan while another dubbed Howerton, Culkin and Pudi as their “dream rotation.”

At the Comic-Con panel, Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman also hinted at yet another element of the show’s newest season, teasing how The Simpsons plans on celebrating its upcoming 800-episode milestone. “It’s a big deal to do 800 shows, and so, we’re going to be doing two brand new original episodes that night,” he explained.

Despite remaining tight-lipped on the details of this two-part celebration — “They’re top secret for now,” he said — Selman assured fans that there’s still a whole lot to look forward to. “I promise you, they’ll be the best 800th episode of anything you’ve ever seen.”
