There are two kinds of bad movies: those that suck the whole time, and those that retroactively suck after a single monumentally terrible scene. We’re not talking about a stupid ending or something else critical to the storyline. Just a tiny, otherwise inconsequential element that pops up out of nowhere to ruin your viewing experience and ensure that you’ll never enjoy this movie again, like a curse from some kind of cinematically averse witch.
So, “What movie was ruined for you by a scene or a plot line?” Redditor DejectedDemoiselle recently asked r/Movies. It was on their mind because they’d just watched Year of the Dragon, a cult classic film they admitted was stylish but couldn’t “get over the fact that the main character, Stanley White, a decorated NY police captain I might add, essentially rapes his love interest after she turns him down several times.”
Their fellow redditors sympathized, citing stupid scenes featuring everything from ridiculous plot devices to out-of-place anal sex jokes.
