I never understood why people imitate the "stereotypical chinese-speak" with a scooby-doo "R" sound for their "L" sounds(ie: "ereven dorrar" for "eleven dollar", etc)...the "L" exists in the Chinese language, as evidenced by the names "Li" and "Lung".
ReplyMore than likely it comes from Japanese, which has one sound that is neither R nor L, but somewhere in between, leading people to think that their R's sound like L's and vice versa.
Wow, it's amazing to see someone else that knows that. Yep, they don't really have an "L" sound. I once heard a lady from Taiwan say difficurt instead of difficult. I just thought it was all oriental people that pronounce it that way though. . .
