I wanted to be a psychologist when I was in 7th grade. That was also the year 6th sense came out. I abandoned that dream.

Replyno one cares but me but...this is a comic about psyCHOLOGY not psyCHIATRY. a psychologist is a therapist, they talk with you about your life and feelings n s**t. a psychiatrist prescribes psychiatric medication (antidepressants, anti-psychotics, mood stabilizers, antianxiety pills, etc.) there is little personal talk, if any, the focus is on the psych meds- any side effects? any adverse drug interactions? does a dose need to be increased? decreased? how effectively are the meds working? if you are on something that can cause harmful physical imbalances, is your blood test normal and up-to-date?

Just for the sake of being a douche I'm going to point out that in order for a psycho-pharmacologist to know WHAT to prescribe they need to be in close contact with the therapist handling the patient. This particular session would freak out the patient's Psychiatrist -as well as- his Psychologist. It is never specifically stated in the title that the character in the comic is the Psychiatrist, it is merely implied that this situation would stress out the Psychiatrist handling the patient.

Actually my psychiatrist appointments are basically identical to my counseling appointments both an hour long and both we discuss the same stuff. Very little of my appointments are about medications and how they are working like maybe 5 minutes...so no, that is not always the case...

Just having taken one semester of psychology from a community college I also noticed that the comic got that pretty wrong.
Also, this sort of Freudian psychoanalysis doesn't tend to happen so much anymore either from what I learned.
Don't worry, fairylover. It bothers me whenever they mix that up, too.
psychologists arent therapists actually they just diagnose.
All tha hate for image quality and funniness is a bit like whoah. I think of this more as a thougt experiment. It wasnt trying to be funny, just ask a crazy question to a brain dude. I know they hear super crazy stuff like i'll kill your face and eat you while you sleep or something similar i guess... but if a brain dude did out of nowhere hear this, it prob would make him go whoah, cool.

Well, i'm a psychiatrist, and my first thought in that situation wouldn't be to run away scared. I'd be thinking: this guy has a borderline/psychopathic personality disorder and it's doing the same thing all the psychopaths do, trying to intimidate.

I'd say pitying is pretty professional in that line of work.
Being proffesional is keeping it hidden from your patients. Otherwise you can say and think what you damn well please right?

You're entitled to your opinion, but really? It says that Cody and/or Fatawesome wrote it right below the f**king article title. I don't go into bookstores and pick up every single book by Glenn Beck, and then proceed to read them, only to throw them in a rubbish bin when I notice that the last page is signed Glenn Beck.
Dude, Blusky, who actually reads the article authors? Personally, if I want to know who wrote it, I'll go back halfway through and check, or just wait until the second page. I never really pay attention to who wrote it. (This is, of course, an exception; I knew it was fatawesome, but in terms of Cody or anybody else.)
Not a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists prescribe pills to clients. That up there is a Freudian psychotherapist.

yet again not true...same topics, same length in both my psychiatrist appointments and counseling appointments...
As lame as that was it was better than the Basic Instructions un-comics.

ReplyThis might have been funny if he'd said it to a total stranger, but a psychiatrist? I get that it's supposed to be a joke and all, but psychiatrists have to put up with crazy people saying even freakier s**t every day; I doubt that something as subjective as a dream would make them want to kill someone.

This could almost be funny, if it were better executed- that is, if you didn't have to read it repeatedly to make sense out of the images.
