The 5 Most Obviously Drug-Fueled TV Appearances Ever

Crispin Glover on Letterman
Date: July 28, 1987
Evidence: The first symptom is the wig. We're not sure what George McFly's hair looked like prior to this interview, but we're pretty certain it didn't look like that. Then there's the clothing. He's dressed in striped pants, a heinous purple shirt and a pair of black platform shoes that don't appear to fit him. Keep in mind that this is '87, not the early '70s. If you're wearing what Crispin Glover is wearing during this interview, then you've clearly been high long enough to have gone shoe shopping while fucked up.
As far as behavioral symptoms, we're not really sure how to describe what Glover is doing here. At first he seems to be terrified of Dave and the audience, but then he challenges Letterman to an arm wrestling match and tries to jump-kick him in the head.
Drug(s) They Were Probably On: Difficult to tell. At first it seems like a classic acid freak-out. He is looking at Dave like he has three heads and the audience like they're a big tangled lizard orgy. But then he starts getting physically aggressive. Our theory: a second drug along the lines of PCP, taken right before he went out, kicked in halfway through the interview.

Glover wasn't on drugs. He was promoting the movie "Rubin and Ed" and that is the character he plays in the movie. So yeah..not on drugs
ReplyYeah, the movie didn't do well. But having the character reappear in that addictive music video of his sure did. *heads to YouTube to watch "Clowny Clown Clown" for a 782nd time*
# 3 was filler,...really couldn't find anything better?
ReplyNot high def, but def high!
Replyuhhhh, ahhhhh? ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Richard Pryor was f*****g GOLD! oh he was def high, but he was right; he wasn't a scholar, or a critic, or a politician, what the f**k are we doing asking him his opinion on s**t that he admittedly knows little about!?! I only wish stars today were as honest, rather than going out of their way to tell the world what's wrong with it, and how it should be done/fixed! I can't give a f**k about some borderline retarded, self important rectal smears take on world hunger, the ozone layer, or AIDS in Africa! Yeah, I care about these things, but if you're an actor; be an actor, if you're a singer; be a singer, and for Gods sake leave the mental heavy lifting to those who can!..
ReplyJon Stewart spend an awful lot of time making fun of people like Fox News for "being irresponsible, and adding nothing meaningful to the national dialogue". When they call him out for being "irresponsible, and adding nothing meaningful to the national dialogue" he *actually* has to point out that he's a social commentator, but primarily a comedian. It isn't his job to add something meaningful to the national dialogue. His job is to point and laugh at it.
If the trash man doesn't come around to pick up your trash - just because he doesn't like you or something - and you have to complain about it, it wouldn't make sense for the guy to go: "Why don't you get rid of the trash!"
Why can't actors and singers voice their political opinions? Hell, Richard Pryor had tons of outspoken thoughts on social & political stuff, so he would be part of what you call "borderline retarded, self important rectal smears" too. And what makes YOUR opinion above any of that either? We're all equal. You don't have to be a politician or a critic to have something to say.
Whitney Houston's "Crack is Whack" interview w/Diane Sawyer didn't make the cut? Seriously??
ReplyI may be in the minority on this, but I think America's Funniest Videos improved once Tom Bergeron started hosting. Bob Saget is just annoying. I can't stand the man. Tom actually gets in some decent one-liners and they added several segments to the show to make it funnier. It's not a quality show by any means, but it doesn't try to be. When you walk in the door after a long day at work, just try telling me that someone getting kicked in the nuts isn't funny.
ReplySaget always hated that show and hated doing it, and he's on record saying he actively tried to make it as stupid as he could. Bergeron embraced it and had fun, and the show took off. And yet, I still miss the days when Daisy Fuentes co-hosted... for two very obvious reasons.
Crispin Glover wasn't on anything. He just has severe social anxiety disorder, and believe me,what you have that, everyone thinks you're on acid.
ReplyAre James Brown and Cynthia McKinney the same person?
The Funniest Home Video audience wasn't on drugs, duh, they were just in the late 80s...same thing, really.
You forgot practically every post-1989 TV appearance of Paula Abdul.
Indeed, butter fucks you up badly. Stay in school kids!
(Yes. I use that joke in every piece of Abdul fanmail I sent so far. Who is this Deen person some people are talking about?)
Holy f**k i love richard pryor.
ReplyI kinda get the impression that he's just putting on a show.
ReplyThis one is clearly missing Maradonas last important game.
ReplyCrispin Glover was in character. Unfortunately.
ReplyNo... I work with actors. That wasn't a character, that was a man in distress.
what about orson welles during any tv appearance for the last 15 years of his life?
Replyor marlon brando's last larry king interview?
I dispute that Glover was on drugs. He was probably just in character for the film he was promoting.
ReplyIt was a prank. He was using the character of Rueben Farr (sp?)to mess with Letterman.
I was kinda expecting Sly, of Sly and the Family Stone fame, to be on here. He's gone on TV rrrreal fuckin' high.
ReplyRichard Pryor? ON DRUGS? What a ridiculous claim!
ReplyI will admit, the laughing drug during Funniest Videos flies through my veins. There is just something about a dude getting hit in the balls. I don't know.
ReplyI stopped watching after the 900th "fat kid in a sling-shot ride".
Did anyone else keep getting banner ads for a rehab center while reading/watching this?
ReplyThe James Brown interview reminded me of when Conan O'Brian would do interviews with a picture of a celebrity with just the lips moving. He was a total caricature of himself.
ReplyGlover was playing the character of 'Rubin' in the movie 'Rubin and Ed'. It's comedy, just not as commercial audiences are used to. Unless you count Andy Kaufman, of course
ReplySeriously, I have to reload this ferkin sloooow-loading website all over again, for every ferkin entry? No, f**k off.

That's not the website's fault, your computer or connection if fucked up. I'm reading this on my cell phone and I haven't had to reload once. Stop being a dumbass and posting multiple times about reloading, because it's only you.
