Awards shows are weird; there's no way around that. It doesn't matter if it's movies, Broadway, sports, or Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence. 

The idea of gathering a bunch of people in uncomfortable clothes, plopping them in uncomfortable seats in an uncomfortably hot room while they're all bouncing back and forth between happy, sad, and hangery is a simmering pot waiting to boil over at any point. It's honestly amazing that most of these don't end up looking middle section of a WWE Royal Rumble match. Aaaaand sometimes they do. (Give us Will Smith v. Chris Rock at Wrestlemania, you cowards.)
