Suzanne Somers’ Husband Brings Her Back As A.I. Robot: ‘You Can’t Tell the Difference’

Er, you can absolutely tell the difference
Suzanne Somers’ Husband Brings Her Back As A.I. Robot: ‘You Can’t Tell the Difference’

We still have two months to go, but “Suzanne Somers’ husband cloning the deceased sitcom star as an A.I. robot” is the leader in the clubhouse for Creepiest Comedy Story of 2025.

“Obviously, Suzanne was greatly loved, not only by her family, but by millions of people,” Alan Hamel, Somers’ husband and partner of 55 years, told PEOPLE. “One of the projects that we have coming up is a really interesting project, the Suzanne A.I. Twin.”

It’s not just an abstract concept. Hamel worked with a robotics company to build a herky-jerky Suzanne Somers duplicate. Then A.I. created a personality based on “all of Suzanne’s 27 books and a lot of interviews that she has done, hundreds of interviews, so that she’s really ready to be able to be asked any question at all and be able to answer it, because the answer will be within her.”

Hamel showed off Suzanne A.I. Twin at a conference earlier this year, where the star’s duplicate sang the praises of Alan Hamel. “He is my partner in everything, from life to love,” she said in a flat imitation of Somers’ voice.

While Suzanne A.I. Twin looks like a department-store mannequin that wandered into Disneyland’s Hall of Presidents, Hamel is convinced no one will be able to tell them apart. “When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference. It’s amazing,” he said. “I’ve been with Suzanne for 55 years, so I know what her face looks like, and when I just look at the two of them side by side, I really can’t tell which one is the real and which one is the A.I.”

In case you’re stumped, the real Somers is on the right.

According to Hamel, Suzanne A.I. Twin was what the living actress wanted all along. “It was Suzanne's idea,” he claimed, a project inspired by a conversation the couple had with futurist Ray Kurzweil more than 30 years ago. “She said, ‘I think it’ll be very interesting, and we’ll provide a service to my fans and to people who have been reading my books.’”

“So that’s the reason we did it,” Hamel said. “I love being able to fulfill her wish.”

What’s the future for Suzanne A.I. Twin? Hamel, who sits on the Kennedy Center's board, suggested that she be honored with an award.

We only give those to people who are alive, Hamel was told.

Whatever. Hamel knew how awards were presented in the past. “But Suzanne A.I. is the future, and the future is now,” he told the board. “And wouldn’t it be really interesting to have her at the Kennedy Center to accept being honored?” (She’s not getting the award.)

Instead, Three’s Company devotees will soon get their chance to hang with Suzanne A.I. Twin. Hamel plans to make her A.I. consciousness available on SuzanneSomers.com, which currently serves as an online store for Somers-branded beauty supplies and organic snacks. Fans “can come and just hang out with her. They can ask her any questions they want,” he promised. “She’ll be available 24/7, and I think it’ll be really wonderful.”
