21 Movies and TV Shows That Got the Science Hilariously Wrong

Listen, movies aren’t made by scientists — they’re made by incredibly hot people and others who make incredibly hot people look and sound good. Still, science is an interesting and sometimes even necessary subject to broach in a movie or TV show. When that happens, productions hire only the best expert consultants their blockbuster dollars can buy.

Just kidding! Mostly, they wing it based on half-remembered study guides from freshman bio and vibes. Maybe it’s a budget thing, maybe it’s an overconfidence thing, or maybe the straight facts would just be a buzzkill on-screen. Whatever the case, the version of science we end up seeing typically bears little resemblance to what those cute, broke little nerds get up to.
