‘South Park’ Inspired Judge Judy to Make a Show About Herself as an Infant

Judge Judy is obviously no stranger to the world of television, as evidenced by the decades she spent verbally abusing poor people inside a fake courtroom. But now that she’s made a fortune from reality TV, Judith Sheindlin is considering making the transition to narrative storytelling. With a cartoon. About herself. Oh, and she would also be a literal baby.

Sheindlin recently appeared on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, giving the podcast’s title its biggest stress test. Early on in the episode, Poehler mentioned that the TV Judge is “all over TikTok,” right now thanks to a series viral A.I.-generated “Baby Judge Judy” videos, which are kind of like the show Muppet Babies if the Muppets were all huge assholes.

“That is so frightening,” Judge Judy said of the internet phenomenon.

But later on, Sheindlin responded to Poheler’s questions about her writing career with a somewhat shocking statement. “What I want to do, for my next adventure,” she told the Parks and Recreation star in a hushed tone, “that I would like you to play with me at doing, I want to steal Baby Judge Judy back from A.I.”

Putting aside the fact that Judge Judy became some kind of a cross between Ethan Hunt and Nicolas Cage’s National Treasure character while discussing artificial intelligence, she went on to clarify that this isn’t a joke. She even said that she wants the proposed burglary/project to resemble Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s long-running cartoon.

“I want to take Baby Judge Judy – I haven’t shut ‘em down,” she explained. “I said, ‘I wanna get more people involved with this character.’ And then I want to take this character and create a South Park-y (show) so that I can Judy kvetch through the baby. Speaking through Baby Judge Judy would be a whole lot of fun.”

“But you need the right writer,” she added, hinting that Poehler should take a break from her successful podcasting and acting career and take a job penning this hypothetical series about a loud-mouthed infant judge.

“I love it,” Poehler said, noting that she was “very flattered” by the offer. But she very quickly changed the subject to how Sheindlin is “always looking” for her next adventure.

So we probably shouldn’t expect to see Amy Poehler Presents ‘Lil Judge Judy anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean that Sheindlin won’t still get the show made. And if she’s serious about taking her cues from South Park, maybe we’ll get to see how Baby Judge Judy responds to the Chewbacca Defense.
