‘Deadwood’ never got a fair shot
22 Great TV Shows That Just Came Along at the Wrong Time

Some TV shows are just too far ahead of their time, and we don’t necessarily mean it in a “the world wasn’t ready, maaaan” kind of way. Sometimes, it was literally just a bad time for certain topics, formats or stories, and a series that bombed might very well have done better at a later point in time. Or even earlier. It was a real risk to make a Cold War spy drama in 2013, you guys.

That was on Redditor unitedfan6191’s mind recently, when they told r/Television, “I feel like Elementary was a really great show on CBS and a great modern reimagining of the world of Sherlock Holmes with great performances and great writing,” but the fact of Sherlock’s simultaneous existence kind of stole its thunder. They then asked, “What are great shows that, if they were made at a different time in history, would have been way bigger?” and a lot of points were made about prestige TV budgets, the streaming era and just giving franchises some damn breathing room.
