After Slate published a smackdown of the actor late last week, Hollywood’s comedy elite took to social media to weigh in. The final score looks something like: Martin Short 110 - Slate 0.

Ben Stiller, Michael McKean, Dave Foley, Sarah Sherman, Robert Smigel, Mark Hamill, John Cusack, Jerry O’Connell, Dave Thomas, Justine Bateman and dozens of other comics and comedy writers showed Short the love that Slate apparently never received as a child. 

Comic and late-night writer Laurie Kilmartin revealed the bright side of hit pieces like the Short slam: “Martin Short got to see all the love ppl normally would’ve saved for after he died, so the article was a total net positive.”
