15 Movies That Never Gave Us (Promised) Sequels

Leaving a movie open for a sequel is a bold move, even if the film is a success. It is building a promise toward the audience, so there needs to be money, potential, and confidence to leave unanswered questions, tease a continuing plot thread, or have a post-credits scene that hints at something else coming to a theater near you in the not too distant future. Sometimes this pays off, leading to a successful film franchise in which virtually every single movie will feature some form of lead-in to the next one over and over again until God kills Earth. Then in the afterlife, we'll probably get sequels there, too.
