This week, South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace took a much-needed break from gutting healthcare and obsessing over strangers’ genitals to cosplay as a working lawmaker on Twitter. “Just another day in the office!” she captioned a picture depicting her sitting at a shockingly bare desk, complete with a whiteboard behind it that read, “Your mental illness is not my reality.”
Though likely intended to mock transgender people, several others took a much different meaning from her instantly-viral post: The only things weirder than her politics are her unblended nose contour and Grinch-like grin. “Is this a real picture?” one Twitter user wrote alongside a zoomed-in image of her smiling face, while another likened her to “a Mad magazine drawing of Topanga from Boy Meets World.”
“Her mental illness should not be our reality,” joked a third, as a separate post questioned why Mace, as someone who looks like that, is “constantly judging the appearance of others.”
But Mace wasn’t the only one to land themselves on the internet’s hot seat this week. The many other targets included the original “Apple” girl, Kim Kardashian’s role in the White House and a new name for Callum Turner.
