Charlie Day would rather swallow burning hot chicken wings than admit that some It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia gags haven’t aged well.
During the most recent installment of Hot Ones Versus, Day was given the option of eating atomic hot wings or naming an Always Sunny episode he would remove from their catalog. Instead of denouncing earlier episodes featuring blackface, yellowface, and other racist jokes, Day decided to take the heat. “First of all, that’s impossible. I would delete none of them from existence,” he told co-stars Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton. “I will take on whatever hot sauce thing I gotta do.”
Surely against Day’s wishes, five Always Sunny episodes have been yanked from streaming due to their offensive content, but the show’s upcoming crossover with Abbott Elementary is set to be slightly more suitable for audiences. Chris Perfetti opened up about what’s in store for the second part of his sitcom’s collab with the FXX staple, hinting yet again that we’ll get to see another side of the usually-SFW elementary school staffers later this summer. “It’s obviously the R-rated version of what happened,” he explained, describing the episode as “a gorgeous opportunity to show sides of these characters that we don’t get to show on ABC or on network TV.”
