As we set our sights on the weekend, David Zaslav is zeroing in on which animated institution he can ruin next.
The Warner Bros. Discovery CEO has already enacted Judge Doom-style punishments on Looney Tunes projects as well as all but murdered the muppets of Sesame Street, and according to a report from Axios, the company is now “disinvesting” from Cartoon Network — just months after shuttering Cartoon Network Studios. It’s unclear what exactly will happen in coming months, but it seems Zaslav is comfortable in his role as CEO and Grim Reaper of everything containing an ounce of whimsy or childlike wonder.
While you hypothesize about Zaslav’s vendetta on everything wholesome, twiddle your thumbs and attempt to explain profit margins to your child, take solace in the fact that at least one beloved animated series will seemingly last forever. On the heels of a four-season renewal, showrunner Matt Selman explained that while there’s “no plan” with regard to where The Simpsons will go, there’s plenty of room for the Springfield characters to grow, citing plans for “emotional storytelling” and “comedic biodiversity” that will flourish throughout the Simpson family and spread throughout the town.
The Twitter timeline definitely knows a little something about emotional storytelling, and we’ve gathered the funniest posts to share with you. Today’s best involve a friend with benefits request, a common cashier fantasy and a mascot who’s here to help.
