It can be exciting to learn the lore behind some of television’s finest moments, but sometimes the story is as simple as, “We had this idea, and then we did it.” Unsurprisingly, this is exactly how Danny DeVito ended up as a greased-up goblin in “A Very Sunny Christmas.”
On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Rob McElhenney had the pleasure of recounting his favorite DeVito stories, and revealed that when it came to the infamous episode that still haunts Always Sunny fans, DeVito was more than ready for his oily couch emergence.
“When we asked him to do it, he said, ‘Yeah!’” McElhenney remembered, before going on further to explain the inspiration behind the scene. “I said, ‘Danny, I wanna show you a video,’ and it was a video of a giraffe being born, and I said, ‘I wanna recreate this.’ And before I even hit play, he said, ‘No, I’ll do that.’”
While some are more than game to spring into action at a moment’s notice, others are less enthusiastic about being put on the spot. During Michelle Obama’s recent appearance on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the former First Lady opened up about being a bit put off by the impromptu fitness challenge she endured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2012.
“She challenged me to a push-up competition. I’m the First Lady! And she heard I worked out, and she was like, ‘Do you want to (have a contest)?’ So I’m on her show doing push-ups, and I did more push-ups than her, but she still says that I didn’t go down all the way.”
The experience sounds somewhat demeaning, but it’s comforting to know that Ellen’s reign of terror wasn’t solely relegated to members of her staff.
Thankfully, the funniest people on Twitter aren’t afraid of the spotlight, and their tweets are anything but terrifying. As proof, here are today’s most hilarious posts, which include those about first dates, a dog you have to meet and the natural alternative to Prozac.
