Robert A. Wilson may be best known for fathering actors Andrew, Luke and Owen Wilson, but the late Texas public television executive is responsible for establishing yet another pop-culture institution as well: bringing Monty Python across the pond.
Eric Idle recently reiterated the elder Wilson’s role in introducing his comedy troupe to American audiences, detailing how they got their stateside start on KERA, Dallas’ public television station, thanks to the Wilson family patriarch. “They loved it,” Idle recalled of Texans’ reactions to Monty Python’s Flying Circus. “Ran for maybe 30 years so several generations discovered it. Thank you PBS.”
Speaking of notable cultural exchanges, Pope Leo XIV, the Chicago-born Pontiff may have brought Peanuts to Vatican City. In a now-viral 2020 re-tweet, the Pope expressed his apparent penchant for Snoopy, sharing a Spanish-language comic poking fun at our collective stupidity. “But Snoopy, there are many people who are smart!!” Charlie Brown exclaims, per an English translation of the post.
“Of course, but most of them are asymptomatic!!” Snoopy fires back.
Just like Pope Leo XIV, we, too, think people are dumb — and sometimes, really, really funny about it. Case in point: Today’s funniest tweets, which include those about the “four horsemen of picky eaters,” gatekeeping fits and reverse-voodoo-ing Jalen Brunson.
