Elon Musk has used his unfathomable wealth to create a shittier version of the subway, turn Twitter into a right-wing echo chamber and ruin the U.S. government, but there’s still one thing his estimated $332 billion net worth can’t buy: a good sense of humor.
On Wednesday, the self-proclaimed comedy genius decided to have a go at something beyond reheating stale memes and giving a teen nicknamed “Big Balls” access to your Social Security information — he ventured into bad prop comedy by literally wearing a hat on a hat. “Well, Mr. President, they say I wear a lot of hats,” Musk joked while sporting two MAGA-themed baseball caps during a cabinet meeting. “It’s true. Even my hat has a hat.”
This joke elicited a laugh from the room, but folks on social media weren’t as complimentary of the billionaire’s set. “‘A hat on a hat’ is an old saying for what not to do in comedy,” explained one Twitter user.
