25 Grown-Up Equivalents to Discovering Santa Isn’t Real

A harsh reality of adulthood is coming to the realization that there’s no good answer to your manager’s “Can you pick up another shift?” text. This question, of course, joins a litany of other stress-inducing queries, like “Can you hop on a quick call?” and “So, what exactly did you say to that customer yesterday?”

Thankfully, one Redditor has crunched the numbers and figured out a solution for the first question. You just have to be up for playing a little game. “I learned real quick in the work force that if you said ‘Yes’ the first time, you’re reminded how lucky you are to have a job with extra shifts or overtime,” they explained. “But then say ‘No’ the next time you’re asked, then you’re a POS. However, if you said ‘No’ for the first several times, then finally ‘Yes’ you’re a hero.”

The whole thing is a bit of an employment Saw trap, but they’re right. Other Redditors have divulged the times their eyes were opened to the ways of the world, and man, if you’re having a really good day, this will definitely ruin it.

Imightbeafanofthis 2mo ago I don't know how to put it succinctly. I grew up with the assumption that the people who led countries and industries must really know a lot and have lots of information that the common people do not. I now know that's a wistful fiction. The people who run things are just muddling along the best (or worst) they can. In fact, the ones who say they know it all are often the ones who are the most clueless. 900 Reply Share ...
