30 Niche Hobbies People Have Come to Love

There’s nothing wrong with playing video games or bulking up at the gym, but sometimes, taking up an incredibly weird hobby is what will really make you happy.

Redditors know a little something about this key to a fulfilling life. One of them swears by practicing Historical European Martial Arts, and notes that while outsiders view him as a “glorified LARPer” or “study the blade” dude, it’s a fun workout, and he’s become part of a really nice community of people.

In that vein, others have revealed the niche hobbies that soothe their souls, including flint knapping, flashlight collecting and getting incredibly nerdy about old buttons.

sherlockmyballs . 7y ago I like to scour the country for celebrity graves. I've visited maybe 20+ graves ranging from Mr. Rogers, Andy Warhol, Patsy Cline, Ann В. Davis, Lee Harvey Oswald, Lucille Ball, Mickey Mantle to JFK, Woodrow Wilson, Helen Keller, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Parker, Clyde Barrow, F. Scott Fitzgerald and more but I can't think of more off the top of my head. - 240 ...
ThelnvisibleDuck . 7y ago I really like graphs. I don't know a what point you call it a hobby, but I spend a lot of time viewing r/dataisbeautiful, fivethirtyeight, and wherever else a graph pops up. I'm also trying to learn the basics of R right now (free to download!) so I can make better graphs than the autogenerated ones on excel/publisher - 306 ...

monito29 7y ago Juggling. People think it's cool, but they don't understand my passion for it. It's a great way for me to get into a meditative (or flow) state. There's always a new trick, prop or number to work on. It actively improves your hand eye coordination. Multiple studies have shown that juggling promotes grey matter growth and increased communication between the left and right sides of your brain, one consequence of this is people that are actively juggling actually learn other things faster (this benefit goes away if you don't stay in practice though) It improves balance. It's
bugkiss 7y ago I started working at a local sex shop a while back because I was desperate for a job and they were close and hiring. Nowadays I'm pretty savvy to the inner workings of sex toys, sexual health, and all that jazz. I tend to get really excited talking about sex toys and it pretty much disturbs everyone outside of my work environment, which I understand I guess. - 200 ... smilbandit 7y ago Would have been funnier if you had said, all that jizz 21 ... + More replies

Sci_Fi_Fan99 . 7y ago Identifying plants, especially trees. I love just going out with my ID keys and keying out the plants around me. 7y ago I love Eurovision, and I'm a hardcore follower of figure skating. I'm a speed skater and swimmer but I don't have the same passion for these that I do for solo dance, which is the figure skating discipline I'm starting to compete in. I figure skated seriously as a kid but injuries and such. I also really love border anomalies. Why? Aspergers. 31 ...

Mr_Drewski - . 7y ago Bowyer, and flint knapping. I like making self bows, still working on making a laminated long bow. Self bows being bows made from a single piece of wood, and are relatively low poundage and easier to make than a laminated bow. With flint knapping, I have only produced a handful of acceptable broadheads, most end up in pieces (I practice with obsidian). 18 ...
