This Central Florida Symphony Orchestra Is Gonna Go Hard on Music from 'The Office' and 'Monty Python'

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has allegedly been hospitalized in Orlando, just a couple of days after his supporters stormed Brazil’s Congress, Supreme Court and presidential offices in protest of his election loss — and that’s still not the most exciting news to come out of Central Florida in the last week.

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra recently announced that, for their 69th season (nice!), they will perform a concert featuring music from comedy classics such as The Office, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Pink Panther, among others. And so, on February 4th, attendees of the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida, will be serenaded with the sounds and songs of comedy legends. 

No word yet on if Here Comes Treble will be opening.

It’s not unusual for an orchestra to put on a “crowd-pleaser” night as a way to drum up publicity for a new season — Star Wars and Indiana Jones composer John Williams is a regular guest at some of the world’s most esteemed ensembles as they perform songs from his legendary filmography for massively grateful audiences who might not make it out for Beethoven or Bach. Meanwhile, mainstream music acts frequently make headlines by playing with orchestral accompaniment and filling prestigious concert halls with ravenous metalheads — in 1999, for example, Metallica recorded a live album, S&M, with the San Francisco Symphony, earning a five-time platinum certification in the process. 

Though the Brevard Symphony Orchestra has not booked a big name cameo from the cast of The Office or Monty Python for their “Comedy Tonight” concert, they will no doubt enjoy an audience of comedy lovers whose appreciation for the arrangements may lead to a long-time patronage of the music institution.

They need to be careful, though — if they don’t end the show with a stirring rendition of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” they will find themselves on the receiving end of a Twitter storm courtesy of a jilted, perpetually ornery John Cleese.
