WandaVision's Teyonah Parris Says She Didn't Understand The Show At First

The day we've been waiting for is almost here -- in just a few short hours, the WandaVision finale will hit Disney+, definitively defining what the heck is going on inside The Hex once and for all. To say it's been a long and confusing journey is a gross understatement. Over the past almost seven weeks, fans have worked tirelessly to uncover the answers to all their burning MCU questions, parsing through every fake commercial, every Easter egg, and Hell, pretty much every frame in an attempt to source clues for what's to come in the highly-opaque world of Westview.

However, it seems fans were far from alone in their confusion about the show's many intricacies. In a new interview with the New York Times, Teyonah Parris, the actress behind Agent Monica Rambeau, revealed that she, too, was once confused about the show's many mysteries. Stars, they're just like us!

Yet much unlike many of us at-home viewers, setting our alarms for 3 a.m. each Friday morning to be the first to watch WandaVision's latest installment, Parris's questions surrounding the series began before she was even cast, citing a particularly vague audition process. While trying out for the role back in 2019, the actress says she was provided with lines, but not even a whisper of context surrounding her character's identity or the show's plot.

"I found out I got the part," the star told the newspaper of when she learned she'd snagged a place in the wonderful world of WandaVision "What part? No clue." Although Parris says she was concerned that her casting was some sort of prank for approximately two months before Disney publicly announced the project, she was so overjoyed after seeing her face on a poster inside one of the company's studio's for the first time that she cried tears of joy.

"It's been a dream of mine to be a Marvel superhero," Parris explained. "I had actually been fan-cast as Monica Rambeau years prior on Twitter, so I started doing my own research on the character then."

However, it seems her long preparation for the part wasn't too helpful when it came to dissecting the show's mysterious premise. "Once I read the script, I was like: 'OK, wow! This is crazy and amazing and, wait … how, again, does this work?'" Parris, recalled, echoing pretty much every WandaVision fan's internal monologue each week.

While Parris stayed tight-lipped about Westview's logistics in the series' ultimate episode, she opened about what it was like filming some intense scenes, namely the stunt sequence surrounding her first iconic superhero landing in episode 7.

"I was so excited I think I overdid it," she said. "I'm still feeling some wonkiness in my hip from doing that stunt. I probably should've let the stunt double do more than I let them, but I so wanted to hit that pose." Deadpool may have warned us all about the physical tolls of a badass landing, but hey, who can blame her for wanting to look that cool?

So readers, as you polish your last-minute theories for the final episode, remember, you're not alone if you're confused by the Westview phenomenon. Happy WandaVision eve, folks!
