Peanuts' Holiday Specials Won't Air On TV This Year

Well, readers, it seems like a few more Spooky Season and Holiday Season traditions are changing in light of the um, unique year that has been 2020. No, I'm not talking about socially distanced trick or treating or scheduling inevitably awkward Zoom Thanksgiving dinners. The steadfast Peanuts' Holiday classics, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and A Charlie Brown Christmas, won't air on television this year, and some fans are frankly pissed. "There's Evil, then there's Messing with My Five-Year Old Kid Evil ," wrote Twitter user @Johnubacon. "Apple, you've crossed a line. Perhaps they should review the Grinch - before they steal that too."

So why can't we have a normal holiday like every other year? Well, aside from a global pandemic making travel relatively risky and a fraught election that would probably lead to some, uh, tense holiday dinner debates, the answer is relatively simple -- Apple TV+. As a part of a deal making the tech company turned streaming service and potential monopoly "...the home for all things 'Peanuts,'" according to a statement, Apple will stream the classic specials during their respective holiday seasons. Now, before you break out your pitchforks and torches in anger over 'The Great Pumpkin' going off-air for the first time in more than 50 years, not all hope is lost despite  -- you will be able to see your favorite cartoon beagle for free after all. Apple, in a true embodiment of the holiday spirit, will stream the beloved specials for non-subscribers, according to Newsweek.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be streaming for free from October 30 - November 1, with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, from November 25 - 27, and A Charlie Brown Christmas from December 11 - 13, although Apple TV+ subscribers can watch the specials for longer windows.

2020, the year we swapped the Great Pumpkin for the Great Apple (TV+). Good Grief!
