No One Will Ever Stop Messing With The Han And Greedo Scene

We're all going to have to accept that the scene between Greedo and Han Solo in the cantina in Star Wars: A New Hope, aka the infamous "Han shot first" scene, is a living, ever-changing work of art. No two generations will ever experience or remember the scene in quite the same way. It has nothing to do with perception or false memories. It's because nobody in charge of the Star Wars movies is capable of leaving the scene the hell alone. The latest version of the scene that you can watch on Disney+ right now has made a small but significant change.

See if you're eagle-eyed enough to catch it the way Twitter user and comedian Eric Fell did:

Here's the original scene for reference:

As you saw, the original was significantly lacking in moments where Greedo shouts "MACLUNKEY!" before firing on Han. It was MACLUNKLESS.

There's no use in debating which version of the scene is better. Every generation will get their own with which they will develop an irrational emotional attachment. Boomers, Gen Xers, and older millennials have the classic scene where Han shoots first and nary a MACLUNKEY is spoken. Younger millennials and Gen Z grew up with the special edition where Greedo shoots first without a MACLUNKEY in sight. Whatever generation comes after will have MACLUNKEY forever burned into their brains.

In 1,000 years, the entire Star Wars saga will remain unchanged save for this one scene that, like a VHS tape has been recorded over way too many times, has become a psychedelic mishmash of each new generation's twist on what this scene should be. Whoever owns Star Wars in the 2080s will digitally insert a third nipple poking out above Han's shirt collar. In 2164, the camera will hold on one of the aliens in the cantina during the cutaway reaction shots he says "Hatchie-Matchie! That's-a spicy meatball!!". In 2232, their eyes will bleed the entire time. And why will they all make these changes? Because it'll makes sense to them at the time and to literally no one else ever.
