All The Controversy Surrounding 'The Hunt' Is Stupid

As is often the case nowadays, the problem began with Donald Trump. For a man most famous for not being intelligent, there are still times he reaches such thrilling new lows of stupidity that all you can do is stare in slack-jawed awe and soak in every second of it. That's what happened with the formerly upcoming thriller satire The Hunt, which Universal Pictures has pulled from its release schedule in response to mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio (and probably four other localities by the time this publishes).

The Hunt, from the producers of The Purge, looks like The Purge on Alex Jones brain pills. Instead of traditional American power structures preying on the poor and minorities, it features globalist elites kidnapping and hunting rural white Americans who, according to the script, are anti-choice and unabashedly use the N-word on Twitter. Remove all the timeliness, and the movie is just a modern take on Richard Connell's 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game, which I contend is itself a ripoff of John Leguizamo's The Pest.

I have my doubts that the movie is truly pro-Trump, as everything about the trailer, along with the cast, points to it being more of a complex satire, a la Get Out (it's also from the producers of Get Out). On the surface, The Hunt seems like MAGA fanfic. And that's why it's so funny/sad/very sad that the wealthy, fame-addicted former game show host who is the president trashed it, saying, "The movie coming is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!" apparently not realizing that it positions shadowy liberal elites as the villains.

Unless he torrented a leaked copy, then Trump just tanked a movie that would appeal to his base for no apparent reason. Hell, that trailer looks like it'd be used to warm up the crowd at his rallies. This is as close as Trump will ever get to having a genuine Hollywood movie that he could promote the hell out of, thus singlehandedly driving it to the top of the box office -- for which he would take all the credit, as if he wrote the script, provided craft services, and labored tediously in the editing bay.
